Being a Mum, Running a Business and Also Making Time For Yourself

Being a Mum is a full-time job in itself, but adding running a business into the mix, and it’s a whole new level of chaos. Throw in the desire for personal time and quality family moments, and you've got a juggling act that would impress even the most seasoned circus performer. So, how do I manage it all you may ask?

Let’s break down the delicate balance of being a mum to a three-year-old, running a successful personal training business, and still making time for myself and my loved ones.

Wearing Many Hats:

Swapping between many roles throughout the day is crucial because my days are multifaceted, demanding flexibility and adaptability. Every day I swap between Mum to personal trainer, an amateur therapist, a wife, the family organiser and the Cook! Being able to seamlessly transition between roles allows me to be present, without being overwhelmed!

Prioritise Your Time

Time is your most precious resource, so I aim to use it wisely. Implementing time management techniques such as scheduling my day in advance, setting boundaries around work hours, and meal planning for the week ahead. By maximising my productivity during designated work hours, I can create more opportunities to relax and recharge with my wee family.

With so many responsibilities screaming for my attention, prioritisation is key. During the week, Otis goes to day care, which gives me the opportunity to fill my days with my awesome client sessions. Once I have their PT sessions planned each week, I will go through and schedule my own time to work out – even if it’s only half an hour! Carving time out each week for self-care is often easier said than done, but ensuring I have specific time allocated for my own fitness and well-being means I am my best self for my clients and my family.

Setting Boundaries

I have made the decision to have Fridays off with Otis and am firm with this boundary. I think it’s important to have this non-negotiable time put aside each week to focus on our family. Three is such a fun age and I’m trying to soak in all the time I can with him!

Cherishing the moments:

Actively cherishing the precious moments with your family. Whether it's snuggling with my little one after a long day or enjoying a leisurely weekend brunch together, these moments are what make all the juggling worthwhile. Being present, savouring the little things, and celebrating the joys of motherhood and entrepreneurship.

Balancing motherhood, running a personal training business, and making time for myself and my family is no easy feat, but it's entirely possible with the right mindset and strategies in place. Embrace the chaos, prioritize what matters most, manage your time effectively, and cherish the moments.

Remember, we’re all doing an amazing job, and our resilience and dedication are an inspiration to us all.

Keep juggling, mum – you've got this!
